For your personal sake get an additional travel insurance for 20 Euro \u2026 even you check with your insurances company provides coverage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respect their religion, their love and dedication to the family and King<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t argue with Thai (especially when they are drunk \u2013 see first point)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accept that they are sometime not as responsive or problem solving as you think it should be but they try \u2026 Relax. Take a Grab and there a Golfcart to get around<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/yNuNEExhtdKgNwF47\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/yNuNEExhtdKgNwF47<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.muangboranmuseum.com\/\">http:\/\/www.muangboranmuseum.com<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Good to combine with The Erawan Museum, which is on the way&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/aHAcSCBfm8m5VwBe7\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/aHAcSCBfm8m5VwBe7<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Transportation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><ul><li>TukTuks are only for tourists \u2013 do it once, but it is not perfect for getting from A to B.\u00a0BTS: perfect bus a ticket for a day (there are not multi tickets)<\/li><\/ul><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><ul><li><span style=\"font-size: revert;\">If you have a stopover at the BKK airport you can get easily to One Central World for shopping\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Tube: in most cases you can use Creditcard\u00a0There is not one card for all public transportation (to my information)Tell the taxi driver before entering where you want go as sometimes they reject due to traffic \u2013 offer good tip \ud83d\ude09<\/li><\/ul><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><ul><li><span style=\"font-size: revert;\">Not always they use the meter \u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No worries to hire a taxi for one day and make excursions \u2013 they do now all spots (but no TukTuk \u2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bangkok &#8211; Angkor Wat:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Two\/three day trip from BKK: Easy to go there and visit Angkor Wat\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Take guides tours (getyourguide.com)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check sundowner event on a temple<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bangkok &#8211; Chiang Mai\/ Chiang Rai:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, great locations. Start in Chiang Mai and you might do a day trip to Chiang Rai (or stay there)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Good daytrip to National Park with visit of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/q1DSmi6wcEMgq43y9\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/q1DSmi6wcEMgq43y9<\/a>&nbsp;and the Bhubing Palace&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/Cvrmt2BU8Uv6eSAf9\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/Cvrmt2BU8Uv6eSAf9<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visit a Long Neck Village but this a controversial discussion&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thailandhilltribeholidays.com\/visit-long-neck-village\/\">https:\/\/www.thailandhilltribeholidays.com\/visit-long-neck-village\/<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tha Pae Sunday Walking Street: Only on Sunday evening the night market in the old town&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Golf of Thailand &#8211; EAST<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pattaya:<\/strong>&nbsp;Easy to get there by taxi\/car. Like Arenal Mallorca with many bars and party \u2013 loud and busy \u2026 beach OK and some nice locations in the south. I liked these restaurants:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>3 Mermaids (reservation recommended):&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/R1Xv5LG3FsThFCGs7\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/R1Xv5LG3FsThFCGs7<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Sky Gallery:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/1vw6yu9xCGagAshL7\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/1vw6yu9xCGagAshL7<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall: no need to go there unless you are looking for this entertainment&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Koh Chang:&nbsp;<\/strong>Good to reach from airport too, need to take a ferry. Nice places \u2013 no special call out. Good reputation and weather is better in December\/January compared to Koh Samui which can have heavy rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Koh Mak &amp; Koh Kut:<\/strong>&nbsp;Haven\u2019t been there but must be nice. Not so touristic and a bit more remote \u2013 close to Cambodia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Golf of Thailand \u2013 WEST \/ Surat Thani<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hua Hin:&nbsp;<\/strong>By driver or train good to reach from BKK but no call outs from my side \u2026 wasn\u2019t so excited<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>National Park Khao Sok:<\/strong>&nbsp;Must be amazing \u2013 still on my list&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/zdtnSTv7sECdZ2KH8\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/zdtnSTv7sECdZ2KH8<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Koh Samui:&nbsp;<\/strong>Well-known so not many words needed: Easy to get there. Chaweng is most busy and touristic \u2026 actually all is touristic. Here some places but a driver knows these as well:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Jungle Club:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/jqTxDGkScKh4GeAJ6\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/jqTxDGkScKh4GeAJ6<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ARKbar beach club: https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/rpVjq863YkvMC94u8<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plai Laem Tempel:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/F5gxpbbrnGtkJ1yh8\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/F5gxpbbrnGtkJ1yh8<\/a>&nbsp;and Big Buddha&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/6m7bCCBPXGwnSTkF8\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/6m7bCCBPXGwnSTkF8<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not for diving<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Koh Pha-ngan:<\/strong>&nbsp;I wasn\u2019t there I only heart that the \u201cfeatured\u201d Full Moon Parties are overstated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Koh Tao:<\/strong>&nbsp;I think the highest concentration of diving schools on an island I ever encountered \u2026 but the dives sides are not so exciting \u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Note: End December the weather can be still rainy with strong winds so pick your ferry wisely: there are speed boats in place (2h to Samui) or larger ferries (3:30H) \u2026 BTW: this is valid for all connections \u2026&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I was there back in 2016 so before Corona and I don\u2019t have any recommendation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Diving:<\/em>&nbsp;There are a few very big ones \u2026 but I prefer smaller boutique ones&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Adaman Sea\/Golf of Phuket&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Khao Lak:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Easy to get there and nice beaches (Robinson Club there \u2026 but why go there when you are in Thailand?)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;<em>Diving:<\/em>&nbsp;My recommendation make a Live Aboard Trip to&nbsp;<strong>Koh Similans (FST)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Phuket:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check direct flight as this is an international airport. Depending on your plans no need to go to BKK&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many locations and beaches there but no recommendation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Phuket old town \u2026 ok but not really worth unless you are close<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Diving<\/em>: In most cases they drive you down to south from where the boats are going \u2013 when you stay at Patong (Pattaya Light) it\u2019s ok<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Krabi (Airport)\/Ao Nang:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Good starting point for traveling around in the Golf of Phuket but you should stay in Ao Nang where the beach is.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reiley Beach: Puh, in every guide and very full \u2026but you might be forced by your spouse (with Longtail from Ao Nang)&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/xUvd6tc57QzXEbfc6\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/xUvd6tc57QzXEbfc6<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nice day trip (get yor own driver) to some locations around<ul><li>Wat Tham Suea Krabi:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/r2rMCd3W7U3xKERr8\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/r2rMCd3W7U3xKERr8<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hot Stream Krabi:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/txGAwcXBecNv9SCr8\">https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/txGAwcXBecNv9SCr8<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Koh Phi Phi:&nbsp;<\/strong>Well, pretty full and not all beaches are nice \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No cars and not Tuk Tuks so be prepared to carry your luggage. Either walk or take a boat taxi<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Much younger compared to other locations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diving: Actually not too bad. The boat can reach easily many locations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Overall, too touristic and not relaxing \u2013 there might be some nice resorts but not close to the main pier.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Koh Lanta:&nbsp;<\/strong>nice beaches<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Koh Lipe (FST+)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>My personal favorite \u2013 called the Maldives on Thailand and this is \u201ctrue\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not to small and not too big<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Good diving<\/strong>&nbsp;and nice beaches<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No party island but still good for some drinks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to get there? I did all three ways:<ul><li>Easiest: Fly to Hat Yai and take Bus &amp; Ferry&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Tougher: Speedboat from Koh Phi Phi or Koh Lanta \u2013 takes some time on the boat but faster than driving plus boat<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>From Malaysia: when you enjoyed Malaysia before \u2013 with Speedboad from Langkawi \u2013 you can fly there from Kuala Lumpur or Penang<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My tips are based on my personal preferences and these might not be aligned with interests of others \u2013 no hotel recommendations.
